Mounting Your Underwater Lights

  1. Choose Your Mounting Location Carefully- Shadow-Caster lights require water cooling and should be mounted in a location that is either below the water line, or is frequently splashed and sprayed by water. When choosing a mounting location you must also consider the location inside of the boat where the wire will enter. Avoid locations where you could damage wiring or other lines while drilling the hole for the power cable. Be sure that you will be able to retrieve the power cable when it is fed through this hole. Do Not mount lights on the bottom of the hull. This causes excessive drag and leaves the light vulnerable to damage from groundings and floating debris.
  2. Cut out the template that comes with your light and tape in place at your chosen mounting location. Once the template is taped into place, step back and look to make sure this is where you want your lights to be. If you decide to change mounting locations, be sure to check inside the boat to make sure you will not be drilling into any wires or lines and that you will be able to retrieve the power cable. When you have decided on a final location, mark the CENTER HOLE on the template ONLY! DO NOT USE THE TEMPLATE TO MARK SCREW HOLES.
  3. 1st- Use the 7/64" or 9/64" drill bit to drill a pilot hole at the center location. TO AVOID CRACKING THE GEL COAT, TURN THE DRILL BACKWARDS!
  4. Next you have two options- OPTION 1: At the center hole, use a 3/8" drill bit to drill all of the way through the hull. Next, use a 5/8" countersink and drill 1" deep. Option 2: At the center hole, use a 5/8" bit and drill all of the way through the hull.
  5. If mounting to an aluminum hull use the optional foam gasket. Contact Underwater-Lights USA to order.
  6. Feed power cord through hull and make sure light mounts flush to boats surface. If light does not fit flush you may need to drill 5/8" countersink deeper. Retrieve wire from inside boat and place where it can be easily accessed.
  7. With light sitting flush to hull and in final mounting position, tape in place and mark screw holes.
  8. Pull light out of the way and let hang in place. Drill holes for screws at marked locations. Use a 7/64" drill bit if you are going to use the #7 screws or a 9/64" bit if you are going to use the #8 screws. Again, TURN BIT BACKWARDS TO PREVENT CRACKING GEL COAT! Drill holes about the same depth as the length of the screws.
  9. Pour alcohol on a clean rag and wipe the mounting area to remove dirt and wax. Flip the rag often to make sure mounting area is thoroughly cleaned.
  10. Place a sufficient amount of silicone or 3M 4200 marine sealant in screw holes and around the outside of the screw holes and center hole to seal them around the light's base plate.
  11. Secure light in place with screws provided.

Wiring Your Underwater Boat Lights

  1. Rout wire through the boat in a way that keeps it out of standing water and protects it from excessive heat and abrasion.
  2. Rout wiring to a switch rated at a minimum of 5 amps per light. Example for two lights: 5 amps X 2 lights = 10 amp minimum switch rating.Switch is not provided.
  3. Red wire is positive, black wire is ground. REVERSING THE POLARITY WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY! The lights must be wired through a fuse or circuit breaker. Each light will require 4 amps at 12 volts. FAILURE TO DO SO COULD CAUSE FIRE, SEVERE INJURY OR DEATH!
